Top Three Random Tips for Busy Homeschooling Moms:

1) Simple Meal Planning: Slow Cooker Recipe--Easy, Cheesy Corn
(10 servings)
--3 16 oz. pkgs. frozen corn
--8 oz. pkg, cream cheese, cut up ("lite" works fine)
--1/4 cup butter
--3 tbsp. water
--3 tbsp. milk (may substitute reduced-fat)
--pinch sugar (optional)
--6 slices of American cheese, broken up

1. Combine all ingredients in cooker.
2. Mix well.
3. Cover. Heat on Low until heated through and all cheese is melted, about 4 hours.

2) Attractive (but fast and easy) Yard Decorating: Door Decoration
--Cut beautiful, ornamental pieces from your yard...tall grasses, evergreens, slender branches. (Be creative and take a fresh look at your bushes and shrubs.)
--Gather the stems together in a lovely, natural arrangement.
--Tie with a wide, colorful ribbon. Hang upside down on your front door.
--(If your piece is heavy, use thick florist wire or even heavy-duty tape to hold the piece together. Then attach ribbon over it.)

3) Quick Cleaning: Toilet Treatment
Environment-friendly toilet cleaners (or if you run out of your regular product):
* ordinary baking soda--Dump some in and scrub.
*)denture tablets--Drop 2-3 in, let stand 3 hours, and brush.

Enrichment Activity:Grow a Winter Garden

To encourage appreciation and understanding of nature--

  • Find waterproof egg carton or dixie-cups.
  • Fill each section with potting soil.
  • Overnight, soak bean seeds or beans that have been purchsed for cooking (navy, pinto, butter, etc.).
  • Push two beans into each tiny pot of soil. Beans should be just below the surface.
  • Cover with soil.
  • Place in sunny spot.
  • Water daily.
  • Child could keep a daily log to record plants' growth.
