Homeschool Newsletter: Timeline Assistant
As of October 2008, our homeschool newsletter has changed its focus. As you may know from my articles, I firmly believe that the timeline is a classroom essential. With this educational tool, the child puts important historic events in chronological order which helps the student "see the big picture" and brings history alive. However, one of the most frustrating aspects of my homeschooling experience centered around this all-important educational tool. The children and I wanted to do one--but never could seem to get started. The whole thing just seemed overwhelming, just too much. I knew we were missing out on lots of fun and information, but I was stuck. Make the thing...research...find all those dates...how to start?! where to start?! Finally, I felt badly enough that I got my "gumption" up, and we made a timeline. It was beautiful, in a homely sort of way. But it was ours, and it was serviceable. From then on, we had a special time each week to add dates. We collected them through our studies and from other random sources that popped up.
My goal for the monthly newsletter is to make the whole timeline experience little easier for you. I would have loved to have had a system for finding important dates to include. Now, here it is for you and your children. Just add the dates I send each month, and you'll see history unfold. No worries...no frustrations.
If you are already a homeschool newsletter subscriber, you don't need to do anything. You will receive the dates automatically. Otherwise... sign up now for this school year--and tell a friend! The issues are mailed monthly.
Be sure to check back issues! for all newsletters. |
