Homeschool Art Projects

homeschool gifts

These homeschool art projects are appropriate gifts for anyone. But Dads and Grandpas will especially appreciate these handmade crafts. (They are very simple and inexpensive to make, too!)

Desk Gadget to Hold Papers

Our son made this for Dad when he was five. Now he is eighteen and we still use it. It sits on his Father's dresser. Just today we clipped baseball tickets in it.

  • 1 block of wood approximately 3" x 3 1/2" x 1/2" deep

  • 1 block of wood about 3/4" x 1" x 2" deep

(the wood pieces only have to be similar to these dimensions)

  • 1 clothespin (with the wire spring)

  • hot glue gun

  • favorite color of paint

Using hot glue (adult only) or a screw attach the clothes pin to the smaller wood piece. Be sure the pin can open and close.

Fix this wood to the base. (hot glue or screw)

Paint the entire surface.

Seasonal Desk Decoration

Many of these homeschool art projects can be adapted to the occasion. For example, in the following activity, at Christmas, just substitute evergreens for the flags.

  • 2 miniature American flags on tiny poles

  • clear glass container similar to a large ice tea glass (make sure the flags can stand in them)

  • small, clear decorative rocks

  • ribbon--red, white and blue preferably

Place the rocks in the container.

Arrange the flags attractively in it.

Tightly tie the ribbon around the center and tie a bow.

If desired, add any other decorations--curly ribbon, tiny stars, etc.

The theme can be changed according to the season.

Supplies Holder

  • baby jar container

  • 2 3" squares of paper

  • small photograph of child

  • scissors

  • tempera paint or markers

  • clear contact paper or laminating sheets

  • glue

  • hot glue gun

Cut hearts from paper.

Glue picture on one.

Write a message on the other--"I love you" or "Happy Father's Day."

Laminate both and trim.

Adult only Hot glue hearts on the jar wherever the child directs.

Fill with paper clips, rubber bands, etc.

If you have several children, adapt this by using more jars and even different sizes. They could make containers for pencils, thumb tacks, even a coin jar.

Try these homeschol art projects. Dads will be surprised and touched by the love and efforts of their children.
