Benefits of Homeschooling

(Continued!)

peace and joy

The list of benefits of homeschooling just grows and grows...

As your new year of homeschool begins, please be assured that this tremendous commitment is worth all of your efforts.

The possibilities that you open for your children and, in fact your entire family, make the time, expense and plain hard work seem as nothing. Any disappointments, frustrations and "missed opportunities" fade into oblivion. Your homeschooled children are whole, integrated, happy persons prepared to take their unique place in God's plan.

Life and homeschooling...This last week has been one of reflection for me.

Our oldest daughter and our son-in-law started homeschooling their oldest child on Monday.

Our youngest daughter, a university home school admissions counselor, is preparing to welcome to campus her incoming freshmen.

Our oldest son left two weeks ago for the east coast to continue his seminary studies...and as I write this, we are on the road to Dallas, Texas.

Our youngest child just graduated from homeschool high school in June and is off to college. We also have in tow his older brother, a junior, moving into the apartments across the street from his brother's dorm.

Hellos and Good-bys...All filled with opportunities known only to God.

None of these exciting, joyful possibilities would be happening without His grace and blessings on home education.

Home schooling preserved the innocence and integrity of the youngsters by protecting them from the harsh crudeness of so much of society. It allowed them to develop their talents and experience the happiness of living. Home schooling enabled them to grow naturally into the persons they were meant to be.

This morning as we prayed, I began crying. My husband was alarmed and asked what was the matter. I replied that nothing was the matter.

I had just realized that this was the last time we would be saying our prayers together in the same way. By no means did those quick tears indicate sadness... No, quite the opposite. We spent the last twenty years preparing for this moment. I was and am just touched by sweet love of God and His mercy to His creatures.

Times as wondrous as these await all homeschooling Moms and Dads. Indeed, the benefits of homeschooling are a continual revelation.

Note: The following are two quotes (from quite diverse sources) that helped keep me going through thick and thin:

  • "All things work to the good to those who love the Lord." (the Bible)

  • "Never give up! Never surrender!" (Tim Allen in the movie Galaxy Quest)
