Thoughts of Homeschool Encouragement

Ponder these words of homeschool encouragement especially on a day when things don't go right...or the end of the school year seems so far away. Take a minute to sit down and relax, even amid any chaos...and remember that you are not alone.

Lord of all growing things,
by such sweet, secret influences
as those
that draw the scilla through the
melting snows,
And bid the fledging bird trust
untried wings,
When quick my spirit grows,
Help me to trust my wings.

Dear Heavenly Father, make me better parent. Teach me to understand my children,
to listen patiently to what they have to say and to answer all their questions kindly.
Keep me from interrupting them, talking back to them and contradicting them.
Make me as courteous to them as I am to others. Give me the courage to
confess my sins and to ask of them forgiveness when I know that I have done them wrong.
May not I vainly hurt the feelings of my children. Forbid that I should laugh at
their mistakes or resort to shame and ridicule as punishment. Blind me to the little errors
of my children and help me to see the good things that they do. Give me a ready word of honest
praise. Help me to grow with my children, to treat them with respect. Let me not expect of them
the judgments of adults. Allow me not to rob them of the opportunity to think and to learn from
errors.
Make me fair and just, considerate and companionable. Fit me to be loved and imitated by my children.

Give us, O Lord, a steadfast heart,
which no unworthy affection may drag
down; give us an unconquered heart,
which no tribulation can wear out;
give us an upright heart, which no un-
worthy purpose may tempt aside. Bestow up
on us also, O Lord our God, understanding to
know thee, diligence to seek thee, wisdom to
find thee, and a faithfulness that may finally
embrace thee; through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Thomas Aquinas

I sought the Lord, and he heard me, and delivered me
from all my fears. Psalm 34:4
