Part II: Transcript Tips

homeschool transcripts

Free homeschool transcripts help parents present information to college admission departments.

(If you are enrolled in an accredited homeschool high school curriculum, please contact the registrar. Most programs provide official transcripts to colleges.)

Free homeschool transcripts: Points to Remember

  • Use good quality, heavy paper.

  • The heading should include:

    Title--School Transcript
    Date
    Full Name of Student
    Street Address
    City, State, Zip

  • List the high school grades and years. Then under each grade, write the

    1) title of each course taken

    2) credit earned--Use Carnegie Units. 120 class hours=1 credit, 60 class hours=1/2 credit (1.00 for an entire year, 0.50 for one semester)

    3) final grades.

    4) total credits for each year

    5) GPA for each year

    6) grading scale

    7) final high school GPA

    8) total number of all high school credits

Example: (Of course, on the real transcript, line up columns very neatly.)

    Note: Special Circumstances

    1. If your child has skipped a grade in high school, it is easier to read and understand if you group all his courses by subjects rather than years. For example, under "English" You would list English I, Grammar, Composition, English II, English III and British Literature.

    2. If your student has dual credit courses, be sure to indicate this on the transcript. Just type "DC" after the course title.

    **********

  • Be neat, correct and complete. Don't go for fancy, showy graphics. Business-like is better.

  • On the final transcript, after all course work is completed, always include the graduation date. (It can be the last day of class or the date of a graduation ceremony.)

  • At the bottom of the transcript, sign and date it.

Use these tips to design a free homeschool transcript that will accurately and attractively reflect your child's qualifications. Admission counselors will appreciate your efforts and your student's hard work will be properly showcased
