Homeschool Co-op Games

Go Goofy

Traditional homeschool co-op games are sure winners for field days, picnics and parties. But for a change, plan several "goofy" contests . They require no exotic equipment and no expertise, yet are very enjoyable for all!

Two points:
1. Have water and a first aid kit readily available.
2. It is best to play these games on grass.

Below are silly homeschool co-op games guaranteed to add interest and fun to all get-togethers:

  • Greased Pig

Fill a wading pool with water.

Decide how many teams you will need. Three or four players per group works great.

Mark with an "X" a spot six or seven feet from the pool.

Grease an appropriate number of watermelons (one per team) with vegetable oil.

    Divide the youngsters into teams.

    Float the watermelons.

Each team must pick up its "greased pig" and rush it to the finish mark.

The first to the "X" wins.

Note: Each member can use only one hand!

  • Hit a Homer

Use a plastic wiffle ball and bat.

Set up a batting (T-ball) stand.

Blindfold the player, turn him around several times and direct him toward the stand.

He gets five try's to hit the ball. Then it's the next child's turn--and so on.

After the child hits the ball, he stands on the place where the ball landed.

Whoever hits the ball the farthest, wins.

  • Three-legged Race

Using masking tape, mark the start and turn around lines.

Have the youngsters choose partners (or you can assign them).

With scarves or lengths of material, tie together the "center leg" of the partners.

At the signal, they all take off for the turn around line. When they get there, they untie their legs and sprint back to the finish.

The first team with both partners back to the line, wins.

  • Balloon Toss with a Twist

Fill water balloons. The more the better. (Actually, this would be a fun, fruitful activity for the participants, don't you think?)

    Children choose partners.

Each set gets a pile of balloons.

One member of each of the team stands about twenty feet (adjust according to ages) away with an empty pillowcase.

The players with the balloons must toss them to their partners who catch them in the pillowcase without breaking them! (Older youngsters must heave the balloons backwards over their shoulders.)

The winners are those with the most unbroken balloons in their pillowcase.

Have a terrific time with these "goofy" homeschool co-op games. They are sure winners at every field day, picnic and get-together.
