The Homeschool Debate: Be Prepared
Navigating the homeschool debate is an intriguing challenge. The
pros
and
cons
of homeschooling seem endless. Arguments abound.
Before you think about the specific arguments, prepare.
The task is to decide which points warrant merit, which are questionable and which provide the laugh for the day. Parents considering home education must separate the wheat from the chaff. This requires clear thinking and lots of patience.
Step One
When investigating the arguments of others, ask yourself:

Keep for consideration only those points from sources (1) you can trust and (2) which are knowledgeable. Immediately dismiss ideas from those with an ax to grind. You can also safely discard "stuff" from those folks who really know nothing about homeschooling. Many simply repeat rumors or their own fears and guesses.
Step Three
Now get both sides of the arguments in hand. Divide them into "for" and "against." Put them down on paper. Then you can scribble notes to yourself.
Also note any and all questions and doubts you might have.

Now research.
Examine
Be sure your sources are reputable and reliable.
