Joy and Fun

homeschool games--bocce ball

We all welcome homeschool games. They are a pleasant break from the routine, provide an opportunity to develop and use worthwhile skills, and are the popular backbone of most any get-together.

These homeschool ideas for games can be used for support group activities, birthday and other parties, family reunions and picnics, etc. Games are a part of our lives. Thank goodness!

"A game is a structured or semi-structured activity, usually undertaken for enjoyment." (Wikipedia) Games include rules, goals, interactivity and challenge.

Games have always been important to us. Played even in prehistoric times, games are also universal...geographically and culturally. Children from Alaska to Africa to Australia enjoy many similar games. (Cat's Cradle, for instance) Although rules and other specifics may vary because of the influence of the particular social, religious, economic and artistic culture, all youngsters (and adults) the world over cherish games.

"Experts" differ about how to classify games. Here, our games are divided into categories which seem most useful to us Moms planning celebrations. Please do not limit activities to the ages listed. We all know teen-agers enjoy an intense game of Hide and Seek as much as ten year-olds!
